Marsden Park embraces temporary local library

MARSDEN Park Temporary Library has attracted strong community use, with Blacktown City Council encouraging residents to discover the free library services available close to home.

Council extended the library’s opening hours in March following strong demand, particularly for Baby Rhyme Time, Story Time and school holiday activities. Thousands of people have used the service since it opened in 2024.

Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting said the response showed the value of providing local services as Marsden Park continues to grow. “Families have really embraced the temporary library and we have already increased its opening hours in response to demand.

“Libraries today are about much more than borrowing books. They are places to read, learn, take part in activities and connect with your community.

“If you live in Marsden Park and haven’t joined yet, I encourage you to come in and have a look. Membership is free and gives you access to services and resources across the entire Blacktown City Libraries network,” Mayor Bunting said.

Free membership includes access to books, eBooks and audiobooks, digital resources, online learning, events and activities.

Council has also heard from Marsden Park residents that they want more services and community facilities closer to home, including more activities for children and families.

Council is delivering major library and community projects at Seven Hills and Mount Druitt through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program, providing new and improved spaces for learning, programs and community connection.

“The temporary library has been a great success, but there are limits to what we can provide in the current space,” Mayor Bunting said.

“Marsden Park is one of Sydney’s major growth communities and we want residents here to have the same access to services as people in other parts of our city.

“Council will continue to advocate to the NSW Government for the support needed to deliver a larger, permanent full-service library for Marsden Park.”

The Marsden Park Temporary Library is at the Marsden Park Neighbourhood Centre, at the corner of Northbourne Drive and Elara Boulevard.

It provides about 1,500 books, children’s services, an HSC collection and community language titles in Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi and Hindi. Residents can also request and return items from the wider Blacktown City Libraries collection.

The Marsden Park Temporary Library is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 6 pm, and Saturdays from 9.30 am to 2 pm.
