Hawkesbury City Council appoints Will Barton as General Manager

HAWKESBURY City Mayor Les Sheather has announced that Will Barton has been appointed as General Manager of Hawkesbury City Council.
Mayor Sheather made the announcement at Tuesday night’s Council Meeting after Mr Barton was overwhelmingly selected as the preferred candidate at last Friday’s Extraordinary Meeting.
Mr Barton has been Acting General Manger since April 2026, and was previously the Director of Infrastructure Services since November 2021.
Mayor Sheather said Mr Barton was the outstanding candidate in what was a high-quality field of applicants.
“On behalf of my fellow Councillors and Council staff, I warmly congratulate Mr Barton on his appointment to the role of General Manager,” Mayor Sheather said.
“Mr Barton brings more than two decades of experience in local government and infrastructure leadership, including extensive senior executive experience across regional and metropolitan councils.
“He was instrumental in helping guide the Hawkesbury’s recovery following the unprecedented series of floods between 2020 and 2024, and my Councillor colleagues and I have full confidence that Mr Barton is the right administrator to lead this organisation as we continue our work to build a Hawkesbury that is loved by its people.”
Mr Barton’s appointment is effective immediately.
