Funds boost for local events in the Hawkesbury
HAWKESBURY City Council has secured a $500,000 grant from the NSW Government to boost its capacity to host bigger and better local events, funded through the Permit/Plug/Play Program.
The funding will support Council's Hawkesbury Streets: Activate and Celebrate project, which will deliver a range of place activation works across Richmond and Windsor.
The initiative is designed to empower the community to host their own events, support local businesses and strengthen the local economy.
Building on Council's existing support through its annual Events Sponsorship Program and newly created Events Guide, the grant will fund a suite of improvements.
These include installing permanent and portable infrastructure such as hanging points for lighting and banners, public art and modular street furniture.
The funding will also reduce long-term costs through the provision of reusable traffic equipment, permanent power bollards and other shared equipment, while a new digital permit portal and pre-approved Traffic Management Plan template will streamline the application process for event organisers.
Paperwork and administrative costs have long been a barrier to delivering successful community events, and these improvements are expected to significantly benefit both small and large events, as well as Council's annual calendar of events, by cutting the time and money spent on approvals, traffic management and equipment hire.
Hawkesbury City Mayor Les Sheather welcomed the funding, thanking Transport for NSW for its support.
He said local events were an important part of what made the city a vibrant and enjoyable place to live and visit, helping the community grow culturally, celebrate local heritage and support economic growth.
Mayor Sheather said the funding would make it easier and cheaper for local groups to hold events, adding Council was proud to support a diverse and inclusive schedule of events year-round and pleased this support could now go even further for the benefit of the entire community.
