First illegal e-bikes get crushed
THE first illegal e-bikes seized under new NSW laws have been crushed at a Blacktown wrecking yard. The 23 bikes were among 36 confiscated by NSW Police and Transport for NSW in a mid-September Northern Beaches operation, with return applications for 13 being assessed. They included a bike capable of over 90km/h seized from a 14-year-old. Compliant e-bikes must cut power assistance at 25km/h and be limited to 250 watts continuous power. Transport Minister John Graham said it was a graphic warning to riders to ensure their e-bikes were legal.
