Book Week brings stories to life at Marsden Park

PAGES came to life and imaginations ran wild as students at Australian Christian College Marsden Park celebrated the joy of reading during the school’s annual Book Week activities.

Students and staff embraced one of the most anticipated events on the school calendar, with a program featuring author talks, a Books Fair and the popular Book Week Parade.

The parade transformed the Marsden Park campus into a colourful collection of much-loved literary characters as students arrived dressed as heroes, adventurers and personalities from their favourite books.

Staff and the school principal also joined the celebrations, helping create an event involving the wider school community.

While the imaginative costumes provided plenty of fun, Book Week carried an important educational message about encouraging young people to read, think creatively and discover new ideas through books.

Australian Christian College Marsden Park Head of Primary said the celebrations provided students with opportunities to explore reading, imagination and creativity.

“The Book Parade was a particular highlight, with an array of imaginative and colourful costumes on display as our students proudly brought their favourite books and characters to life,” the Head of Primary said.

“Bathed in sunshine, it was a wonderful opportunity for our whole school community to come together and celebrate the joy of books.”

The Head of Primary said Book Week was particularly valuable because reading could have an influence extending well beyond the classroom.

“Book Week is a special event because it brings every part of our school community together around something truly important: nurturing our students’ love of reading and helping them discover the power of books to inspire imagination, creativity and a lifelong love of learning.”

For students, the week demonstrated that books can be much more than words on a page.

Through stories and characters, young readers can discover different places, perspectives and ideas while developing literacy skills that will support their education for years to come.
